The Heartbleed Bug

Kester Dampney

You may have heard the news yesterday (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-26954540) recommending that users change their online passwords immediately in response to the Heartbleed security flaw in OpenSSL.

With respect to LEX, the article above states “Organisations that used Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) web server software would not have been affected.” LEX uses IIS, so this particular bug shouldn’t have any impact. Even in a situation where a LEX user reuses their Yahoo password (one of the vulnerable sites), experts believe it would be very difficult to recreate someone’s password from hacked SSL information, but better to be safe than sorry.

It’s a good idea to regularly change passwords and make sure they are not easy to hack. See http://www.barsquared.com/files/news/2012/safe-and-secure.html for suggestions on how chambers can secure their data.
